Climbers aren’t known for sitting still, especially in a dark room for hours. But they’ll do so gladly this summer as the REEL ROCK Film Tour kicks off its third season with more than 100 screenings of the world's best climbing films at resorts and climbing/mountain towns throughout the country. “REEL Rock is becoming one of the most prominent social events for local climbing communities across the country,” says Laura Fryer, marketing manager for sponsor La Sportiva. La Sportiva, whose athletes featured in the tour include Jason Kehl, Alex Honnold, Micah Dash and Daniel Woods, is just one of many sponsors backing this year’s tour, which also includes a separate film on Tommy Caldwell and Beth Rodden rafting through The Grand Canyon, searching for first ascents in Grand Canyon Walls by Josh Lowell and Peter Mortimer.

After a nine year absence, the Nissan UCI Mountain Bike World Cup will be back in Bromont, Quebec, Aug. 1-3, 2008. The International Cycling Union (UCI) has awarded a triple sanction to the organising committee, including Olympic cross country, downhill and 4 cross events. The top mountain bike riders in the world, both male and female, will therefore be in Bromont for the last World Cup event before the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. This will also be the last opportunity to see and cheer on our Canadian mountain bike medal hopefuls before the games. Are expected to participate, amongst others: Marie-Hélène Prémont of Québec, silver medalist at the Athens Olympic Games, currently sitting second in the international rankings that will be used for the Beijing games; as well as Geoff Kabush of BC, currently ranked 11th.
